Motor Vehicle Maintenance &
Inspection
Introduction:
Proper maintenance includes, among other things, ensuring
that lamps and reflectors are working, and tires are not worn. Some example
roadside safety violations that may cause road accidents include operating an
out-of-service vehicle or operating a vehicle with inoperative brakes, lights,
and other mechanical defects, and failure to make required repairs. This course
sets the stage for a greater understanding of motor vehicle maintenance and
inspection activities. The course was designed specifically for managers, servicemen,
inspectors and technicians who operate and maintain motor vehicles.
Understanding critical information about performing a
vehicle inspection, filling out a vehicle inspection report, and the
consequences of a roadside inspection, helps protect your equipment, your
drivers, and your organization's reputation. This program is designed to
improve the maintenance oversight of fleets of transit vehicles. Vehicle
Inspections and maintenance can help you control costs and keep drivers safe on
the road. A properly executed vehicle inspection can help you learn about:

or crashes
· Mechanical problems before they lead to costly
breakdowns
· Avoiding being placed out of service during a
roadside inspection, or being subject to infractions and fines
· Inspection and repair of vehicle lighting units
· Checking and maintaining vehicle lubricant
