Automatic Arc & Inert Gas Welding
Introduction:
This course will enable the candidates to develop proficiency in the gas shielded metal arc semiautomatic welding process, emphasizing the use of .035 and .045 size solid core wire to weld basic steel joints in all applicable positions. Safety practices are emphasized. The principles learned in this course will allow the candidates to understand how proper fundamental skills and process analysis will prepare them for a position in a career of welding. This course is designed to enable the candidates to understand the key principles in process analysis, welding fundamentals, process and electrode classification analysis, and correct use of associated equipment.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this course delegates will be able to:
· Demonstrate safety in the use of Automatic Arc and Inert Gas welding equipment
· Demonstrate basic Automatic Arc and Inert Gas welding skills primarily through booth exercises and shop experiences
· Explain the fundamental theories of Automatic Arc and Inert Gas welding through written and/or class room exercises
· Develop critical thinking skills
· Recognize and understand the role these fundamentals play in obtaining a high quality weld
· Be able to identify strengths and/or limitations of the process while making decisions regards its application.
· Be able to perform basic welding functions in a variety of positions with a high level of proficiency.
· Demonstrate the ability to change out a shielding gas cylinder on an Automatic Arc and Inert Gas welding station
· Demonstrate the ability to change out a wire spool on an Automatic Arc and Inert Gas welding station
· Be able to perform groove welds on steel plate in all applicable positions
· Be able to perform fillet welds on sheet metal in all applicable positions
