Welding Blueprint & Symbols Reading

Introduction:

This course will enable the candidates to interpret drawing at a fundamental level as applied to the welding trade. The candidates will identify basic lines, views and abbreviations used in blueprints; interpret basic 3D sketches using orthographic projection and blueprints; solve applicable mathematical equations; use basic measuring tools; interpret scale ratios on a blueprint; identify basic welding joints and structural shapes; interpret a Bill of Materials; and identify standard American Welding Society (AWS) weld symbols.

The principles learned in this course will allow the candidates to understand proper print reading skills and interpretation in preparation for a position in a career of welding. The welding industry impacts numerous aspects of production lines, laboratory, research and development, and national defense. The candidates will be able to identify basic lines, views, and abbreviations used in blueprints, interpret basic 3d sketches using orthographic projections and blueprints, solve applicable mathematical equations, use basic measuring tools, interpret scale ratios on a blueprint, identify basic welding joints and structural shapes, interpret a Bill of Materials and identify standard AWS weld symbols.
