Water Distribution System Operation & Maintenance



Introduction:


This course is designed to train operators in the practical aspects of operating and maintaining water distribution systems, emphasizing safe practices and procedures. Topics include the role and duties of water distribution system operators and related Utility & General Services Departments, procedures for operating and maintaining water systems, clear wells and storage tanks, components and characteristics of distribution system facilities, operating and maintaining distribution systems, maintaining water quality in the system, disinfecting new and repaired facilities as well as water delivered to consumers, and techniques for recognizing hazards and developing safe procedures and programs. You learn to analyze and solve problems when they occur and perform mathematical calculations commonly associated with operating a distribution system.

Course Objectives:


By the end of this course delegates will be able to know about:

·        Procedures for monitoring, operating and maintaining water systems

·        Keep clear wells and storage tanks

·        Components and characteristics of distribution system facilities

·        Operating and maintaining distribution systems

·        Maintaining water quality in the system

·        Disinfecting new and repaired facilities as well as water delivered to consumers

·        Techniques for recognizing hazards and developing safe procedures and programs

·        Perform mathematical calculations commonly associated with operating a distribution system

·        Identify and select water pipes conforming to international standards and quality measurements

·        Regulate water quality and production using analytical and flow monitoring equipment

·        Analyze instrument readings and make necessary adjustments to equipment

·        Troubleshoot and make adjustments to pumping systems to resolve distribution issues

·        Monitor chemical supplies, receive and unload chemicals, and change chemical cylinders

·        Follow proper safety procedures for handling dangerous chemicals

·        Evaluate, maintain, and repair equipment, tanks, and storage containers

·        Monitor Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) equipment

·       Explain the process of disinfection using chlorine, hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide, and chloramines.

·       Describe the breakpoint chlorination process.

·       Disinfect new and existing wells.

·       Disinfect pumps, mains, and storage facilities.

·       Calculate chlorine dosage.

·       Determine hypochlorinator and chlorinator settings.

·       List the responsibilities of operators and managers for safety.

·       Prepare and conduct tailgate safety sessions.

·       Identify and safely handle hazardous chemicals.

·       Recognize electrical hazards.

·       Operate and maintain water storage facilities, wells, and pumps safely, with attention to the safety of operators and consumers.

·       Inspect safety features of vehicles and equipment.

·       Drive vehicles defensively and safely.

·       Work safely in the plant.

·       Protect the motoring public and pedestrians from work areas in streets and sidewalks.

·       Understand the proper use of temporary traffic control (TTC) zone devices.

·       Follow the safety rules for excavations.

COURSE CERTIFICATE

Certificate of Completion will be provided to the candidate(s) who successfully attend and complete the course. Training hours attendance percentage of 75% is required.


TRAINING HOURS

Standard course hours: 8:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Informal discussions: 4:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M.

REGISTRATION POLICY

Nominations to our public courses are to be processed by the client’s Training and/or HR departments. A refund will be issued back to the client in the event of course cancellation or seat unavailability. A confirmation will be issued to the relevant department official(s). 


CANCELLATION POLICY

If a confirmed registration is cancelled less than 5 working days prior to the course start date, a substitute participant may be nominated to attend the same course or a 20% cancellation charge is applied. In case of a no-show, a 100% fee will be charged.


PAYMENT POLICY

Payment is due upon receiving the course confirmation, invoice and/or proforma invoice. However; the fee due can be wire transferred to our bank account directly after course completion. Our bank details are illustrated on the confirmation, invoice and proforma invoice, as well. The above documents can be communicated electronically, i.e., in a soft copy or/and in hard copy based on customer’s request.
