Fundamentals of LISCAD & GPS Survey

Introduction:

This comprehensive course is intended to be useful to surveyors who venture into GPS surveying. The course will be helpful to engineers and others for whom GPS may not be a primary tool, but find themselves in need of some additional understanding of the technology. This course will enable you to configure, organize, manage and report on your projects. The breadth of knowledge required for modern surveying is increasing all the time and today it almost certainly includes GPS. Surveyors have been there from the very beginning of the Global Positioning System, and that is getting to be more than twenty years ago. Today, the system developed by the Department of Defense with military applications in mind is attracting users from every imaginable discipline, but it is still surveyors out there pushing its limits.

LISCAD has the power to perform. It is intuitive and easy to use as well as being flexible and adaptable to your procedures. LISCAD is purely a surveying and engineering software. Data from virtually any surveying instrument can be imported and turned into finished plans so easily; you’ll wonder how you ever managed without it. In contrast to add-on packages for drawing programs of LISCAD, there are no superfluous functions that you will never use. The database has been designed with surveying and engineering tasks specifically in mind. This means it’s faster. Data is imported straight in from Leica Geo-systems instruments with no potentially disastrous reformatting.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

· How to perform the GPS settings and Survey techniques

· Learn how to download the data to computer

· Understand how to convert the data to AutoCAD

· Gain the skills to use a GPS confidently and safely at a basic level and understand the advantages of linking it to a digital mapping system

· Be able to download and uploading routes and tracks between GPS and 3-dimensional digital map systems with the opportunity to design and walk some routes

· Acquire the essentials of using LISCAD to process your total station and GPS surveys

· Create code tables and edit the field file

· Learn about editing survey data, building elevations, creating DTM models and configuring the output to CAD

· Understand the process of troubleshooting of GPS
