Document Management System (DMS)

Introduction:

Document management focuses on the storage and organization of documents to support active work in progress, including content creation and sharing within an organization. When organizations do not have any kind of formal document management system in place, content is often created and saved in an unmanaged and decentralized way on scattered file shares and individual hard disk drives. This makes it hard for employees to find, share, and collaborate effectively on content. This also makes it difficult for organizations to use the valuable business information and data in the content.

Document management, often referred to as Document Management Systems (DMS), is the use of a computer system and software to store, manage and track electronic documents and electronic images of paper based information captured through the use of a document scanner. The term document is defined as "recorded information or an object which can be treated as a unit". DM systems allow documents to be modified and managed but typically lack the records retention and disposition functionality for managing records.

This course will explore systematic methods for creating, capturing, categorizing, storing, locating, and retrieving the documents of any sizes and shapes. This course offers solutions to organizations which deal with unstructured information, which gets generated from multiple sources like paper based documents, electronic documents, faxes, and emails. Whether your company is a medium-size operation or a large retail chain, the candidates will learn how to meet demands to efficiently organize and manage the flow of information both internally and externally, and may substantially reduce the cost of operations.
